A GREENOCK social club has lined up a packed calendar of summer events as they throw open their doors to the local community.
The Loreto Club’s committee are making a renewed push to offer inclusive events that bring people together and make the venue a welcoming hub at the centre of the local community.
Their latest event, a family summer party, takes place this Sunday from 1pm to 3pm at the Houston Street club and tickets cost £10 per child and £2.50 per adult.

The party promises to be a fun-filled afternoon for families, with a local kids’ entertainer set to attend.

Club president James ‘Junior’ McCleary and vice-president Billy Carrigan, who have both been members for decades, say the club are keen to see new faces coming along to their events.
Billy told the Tele: “Every club in the town always had traditional Saturday nights.
“We’ve never going to get back to the way it was, so we’re trying to think a bit outside the box.
“On Sunday we’re doing a family day with face painting and a disco, then next Saturday night we’ve got another kind of games night.
“We’ve got a DJ and a hot buffet and lots of different games to play.
“The club has been here a long time, but every club is finding it hard just now.
“I think when the clubs were thriving, they didn’t really like having young people along, their Saturday nights were their Saturday nights. It wasn’t just us, it was every club were like that.
“But if you look at how many have shut in Inverclyde it’s scary. We want to bring it back and encourage young people back into the club again.”
After this Sunday’s big party, the club are also planning a party night fundraiser on July 26 at 7pm to bring in money for the club.
The donation drive will feature a hot buffet and a DJ, as well as games and raffles, and tickets cost £10 per person.
Billy also said there are a wide array of events and attractions on offer at the club for anyone interested.
He added: “We’ve got the soul night once a month, which this place is perfect for, it’s got a great atmosphere.
“We’ve also got the big band on a Tuesday night and on Mondays there’s a wee jam session group.
“Upstairs we’ve got snooker tables and we’re putting dart boards in.
“Anyone will be welcome at any of the clubs.
“If folk want to come in for a game of pool or snooker it’s not going to cost you a whole lot either and drinks are reasonably priced as well.”
Tickets for both of the events can be purchased by contacting the Loreto Club via Facebook.
